IronNote Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to the Windows and Android app IronNote (package com.ironwoodapps.ironnote), published by Ironwood Apps.

1. Summary

IronNote is a note library that lives on your devices. A signed-in copy can also sync through your Google Drive. Ironwood Apps does not host your notes, does not sell your data, and does not use Google user data for advertising.

2. Who is responsible

Ironwood Apps is the developer and publisher of IronNote. Privacy questions: support@ironwoodapps.com.

3. Information processed on your devices

IronNote stores the following locally on each device you use:

  • Original page photos and black-and-white cleaned copies
  • Editable transcripts, voice-to-text notes, highlighter marks, and library structure
  • Handwriting hints you confirm while reviewing pages
  • Your xAI key and license key in the platform credential store
  • Google OAuth tokens used only to talk to Google APIs you authorized

4. Google account and Drive (OAuth)

Google sign-in is optional for local use and required for Drive sync. IronNote requests:

  • Email / basic profile so the app can show which Google account is signed in
  • Google Drive file scope (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file) so it can create and update files the app itself creates or that you open with IronNote. That is a visible IronNote/ folder in your Drive, plus revision history under history/. The app does not request access to the rest of your Drive.

Tokens stay on the device. Ironwood Apps servers never receive your Google password or OAuth tokens.

5. Limited Use of Google user data

IronNote’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular:

  • Drive data is used only to provide IronNote’s user-facing library and sync features
  • We do not sell Google user data or use it for advertising or credit decisions
  • We do not transfer Google user data to third parties except as described below to run a feature you start, or as required by law
  • Humans at Ironwood Apps do not read your Drive files or transcripts as part of normal operation

6. Transcription services you turn on

When you queue a page, IronNote may send that page image (not your whole Drive) to:

  • Google Cloud Vision for document OCR (layer 2)
  • xAI Grok for messy handwriting (layer 3), using the API key you paste in Settings

Only pages you queue are sent. File paths and folder names are not sent. You can use the library without queuing a transcribe job.

7. Licensing

If you activate a Polar license key, Polar is the merchant of record. Ironwood Apps does not take cards. Polar receives the information needed to fulfill that purchase.

8. Retention and deletion

Local files remain until you delete them in the app or uninstall. Drive copies remain in your Google account until you delete the IronNote/ folder or the files inside it. Signing out removes tokens from the device. To delete Google access, also revoke IronNote in your Google Account permissions.

9. Children

IronNote is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

10. Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the effective date on this page. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
